Northeast Corridor Charrettes

November 8, 2018 – The Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization held a series of charrettes for the Northeast Corridor as part of its Strategic Miami Area Transit (SMART) Plan, which includes the Tri-Rail Coastal Link Project.




Outstanding Public Transportation System

October 16, 2018 – SFRTA received the Florida Public Transportation Association’s 2018 Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award for the agency’s demonstration of achievement in efficiency and effectiveness for the public transportation industry.




Train Safety Awareness Week

September 25, 2018 - SFRTA partnered with FDOT for a system-wide safety blitz where staff from both agencies handed out flyers with safety tips at Tri-Rail train stations, as part of Train Safety Awareness Week.




COMTO Recognition Award

August 15, 2018 - SFRTA Executive Director Jack Stephens, was recognized at the COMTO Fort Lauderdale Scholarship Awards Luncheon, along with Mark Gale (Broward Aviation) and Chris Walton (Broward Transit) for their continuous support and dedication to the chapter.




2-1-1 Sign Installation

July 12, 2018 – The first set of signs were posted along the South Florida Rail Corridor nearby Forest Hill Blvd., as part of the agency’s partnership with 2-1-1 to prevent attempts of suicide on the train tracks.




Pompano HQ Dedication Event

June 22, 2018 – A dedication event was held to commemorate the completion of the SFRTA Headquarters, with past and present members of the agency’s Governing Board, elected officials, and past and present staff members.




Folklife Friday

May 4, 2018 – SFRTA representatives were present at the community of Overtown’s “Folklife Friday” Open Air Market and Festival, as the agency begins to introduce itself to the community in preparation for the new Tri-Rail service into Downtown Miami.




Earth Day Activities

April 26, 2018 – Earth Day events throughout South Florida promoted Tri-Rail as an environmentally conscientious option for the daily commute.




Ride & Play 2018

April 21, 2018 – More than 1,000 people rode the four special event trains for “Ride & Play” totaling 8,791 passengers for the day, giving Tri-Rail its 4th highest Saturday ridership in the system’s history.




Safe Kids Day

April 7, 2018 – SFRTA was part of the Safe Kids Day community event held at Palm Beach Outlets, to disseminate important information to children and families about safety around railroad tracks.




Hialeah Market Station Beautification

March 15, 2018 – The City of Hialeah was one of the winners of the Miami Foundation’s Public Space Challenge, and were awarded a grant to beautify Tri-Rail’s Hialeah Market Station with a colorful mural and shaded waiting area.




First Place 2018 AdWheel Award

February 26, 2018 - The SFRTA won a First Place Award in the 2018 Annual AdWheel Awards competition, held by the American Public Transportation Association. The agency won in the category for "Best Marketing and Communications to Increase Ridership or Sales" for the 2017 promotion of the Ultra Music Festival.




Rail Fun Day 2018

January 27, 2018 – Tri-Rail’s Rail Fun Day continues to be one of the agency’s best signature events, where hundreds of families ride the train and enjoy a day of activities, including the South Florida’s Kids Got Talent singing competition.




2017/18 CITT Transportation Summit

January 26, 2018 – The Citizen’s Independent Transportation Trust held the 2017/18 Transportation Summit in conjunction with Miami-Dade County, SFRTA and several partnering organizations, to bring stakeholders together and address major transportation projects in Miami-Dade County.




Tri-Rail Inaugural Winter Wonderland

December 9, 2017 – SFRTA transformed Tri-Rail’s Miami Airport Station into a Winter Wonderland, to celebrate the holidays with new and current passengers. The rainy weather did not deter attendees from riding the train to play with snow.




Miami Book Fair “Street Fair”

November 17-19 – The SFRTA continues to be a proud partnering sponsor of the Miami Book Fair, supporting the annual event by encouraging Tri-Rail passengers to take the train to the event in Downtown Miami.




US Congressman Rides Tri-Rail

October 27, 2017 – While visiting South Florida for a scheduled event, Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) reached out to SFRTA officials, giving them the opportunity to discuss federal issues affecting both SFRTA and Tri-Rail, while riding the train. Shuster is the Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in the US House of Representatives.




FPTA Conference Co-Hosts Recognized

October 24, 2017 – The Florida Public Transportation Association held its annual conference in West Palm Beach this year, where the SFRTA and Palm Tran were recognized as co-hosting transportation properties.




SFRTA Receives 2017 FPTA Marketing Awards

October 24, 2017 – SFRTA received two 1st place and two 2nd place Marketing Awards at the 2017 FPTA Annual Conference in West Palm Beach, where the agency partnered with Palm Tran as co-hosting transit agencies.




SFRTA Receives Award For Financial Report

August 25, 2017 - The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting was awarded to the SFRTA by the Government Finance Officers Association for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for 2016.




SFRTA Wins Award of Excellence in Procurement

June 23, 2017 – The SFRTA received the Award of Excellence in Public Procurement for 2017 from the Florida Association of Public Procurement Officials, Inc. The Authority is one of only 12 agencies in the entire state to receive the award this year, and it is the tenth year that the SFRTA has achieved this award.



Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches Breakfast

May 23, 2017 – SFRTA Deputy Executive Director, Mikel Ogelsby, shared details about Tri-Rail service and current projects, with chamber members during the May Breakfast 2017 event at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.



Ride & Play Day 2017

April 22, 2017 - Tri-Rail hosted its annual “Ride & Play Day” inviting the public to enjoy a day of fun onboard the train, as well as discounts at various partnering destinations in South Florida. The event attracted 9,477 passengers, the largest weekend number of passengers in the history of the system to ride the train, beating the record set in January 2017 by Rail Fun Day.



Excellence in HR Awards 2017

March 24, 2017 – The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce hosted HR Insights 2017, a conference for human resources professionals, business owners and executives, where SFRTA had the opportunity to promote Tri-Rail services as the agency prepares to serve Downtown Miami directly, by the end of the year.



Miami-Dade Bike Friendly Summit

March 16, 2017 – The Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) held the first-ever Miami-Dade Bike Friendly Summit, where it was presented how communities, businesses and universities can receive the designation of Bicycle Friendly Community. SFRTA Wins First Place AdWheel Award

February 28, 2017 – SFRTA won a First Place Award in the 2017 APTA Annual AdWheel Awards, under the Special Event category for Tri-Rail’s “Ride & Play”. The event was comprised of onboard entertainment and local attraction participation that helped the agency carry the second highest Saturday ridership in its history, at the time.



Weekend Ridership Record on Rail Fun Day

January 28, 2017 - More passengers rode Tri-Rail on Saturday, January 28, 2017 than on any other weekend day in the 28-year history of the system. The train carried 9,065 riders on that Saturday, many of whom were responding to the annual Rail Fun Day event.




SFRTA Wins 1st Place FPTA Marketing Award

December 19, 2016 – SFRTA took home a first place award, as well as the “Judge’s Favorite” at the 2016 Florida Public Transportation Association’s Annual Marketing Awards, for the “Take the Train to the Plane” airport campaign.




Public Transit Day

December 9, 2016 – SFRTA supported the first-ever Public Transit Day held in the region, along with South Florida’s partner transit agencies. The idea was produced by Radical Partners and Urban Impact Lab, during their “100 Great Ideas” effort that supports new projects that look to bring positive social change.




Tri-Rail Makes A Wish Come True

October 31, 2016 - SFRTA had the pleasure of hosting Ryan Taylor and his family from Iowa, in collaboration with Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida, as part of his wish to visit South Florida, stay at the Marriott Pompano Beach and ride Tri-Rail.




Millennials/College Student Campaign

August 21-October 8, 2016 – The Tri-Rail “Street Team” was at several Back-to-School events held in Broward College, FAU and NSU, among other local universities, as part of the agency’s effort to reach out to the millennial demographic.




Tri-Rail Commuter Connector Unveiling

August, 26, 2016 - The SFRTA unveiled the first of its new Tri-Rail Commuter Connectors which will have increased capacity for passengers that use the agency's feeder system. For more details, click here.




COMTO Scholarship Awards 2016

August 3, 2016 – The COMTO Fort Lauderdale Chapter held its 2nd annual Scholarship Awards where three South Florida students were recognized for their academic achievements. During the ceremony, the Jack L. Stephens Graduate Scholarship was dedicated to SFRTA’s Executive Director, for his commitment and service to the chapter.




Fort Lauderdale Chamber Tour

July 29, 2016 – Members of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce took a train tour to Miami to experience the easy connection to the Miami International Airport. Tri-Rail regularly promotes connecting with all three South Florida major airports as one of the greatest benefits of the system.




Transportation CEO/GM Meeting

June 29, 2016 - Executive leaders from Palm Tran, Broward County Transit, Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works, SFRTA and Brightline, convened to discuss transit in South Florida. The meeting is expected to continue quarterly and will cover topics including fare interoperability, new technologies and other collaborative efforts.




Senior Stars 2016

May 22, 2016 – Tri-Rail’s 11th annual “Senior Stars” showcased top talent from South Florida’s active senior community at the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale. Jamie Danger of Pembroke Pines was crowned as the winner this year’s show. Click here to watch on YouTube.




Discover the Palm Beaches

May 17, 2016 – Senior staff from Discover the Palm Beaches, the official tourism marketing corporation for Palm Beach County, were invited to ride Tri-Rail in the agency’s effort to attract more tourists to the train system.
